Questions
What a student should know before joining.
Registration is free. The twelve weeks are exercises. A certificate is issued only when a stated programme is finished. Nothing here is advice on a private case.
Joining
- Who can join?
- LL.B. and LL.M. students, including the first year, and also junior lawyers and advocates. A member of the public sends a client enquiry. That form is not student registration.
- Is registration free?
- Yes. This page does not collect a course fee. A later programme, if any is charged, will be stated separately. It is not hidden in this registration.
- How much time does a week take?
- Enough to read the note, watch the briefing, and write the exercise. There is no attendance register on this page.
- Is it online?
- Yes. You sign in at join.ylaworks.com. The weeks do not require you to come to Churchgate.
- What will I learn?
- How a file is described, how a note is written, how an enquiry is recorded, and when to refuse. The weeks do not teach you to appear in court.
- Will I get drafting work?
- You will draft on the facts in the week. A real pleading is assigned only by an advocate, and only as supervised assistance.
- Can I become a campus ambassador?
- You may apply after you join, from your desk. Selection is separate. It is not required for the weeks, and it is not a licence to advise or to collect briefs.
- Will I receive a certificate?
- Joining does not issue one. A campus participation record is issued only after that programme’s stated steps are done. The twelve weeks themselves do not print a certificate.
- Can I speak with a practising advocate?
- You may request a connection or a mentor. Acceptance is theirs. Joining does not assign you a senior.
- Does joining guarantee an internship or a job?
- No.
- Can students work on a real matter?
- Not by joining. If an advocate later assigns supervised work, you still must not advise, negotiate a fee, or hold yourself out as counsel. Under the Advocates Act, 1961, only an enrolled advocate may practise.
- How is the work marked?
- You record read, watch, practise, assess, and apply on each week. That record is not a university grade.
- How is my information kept?
- The chambers use your name, email, mobile, college, and what you write to run this desk. It is not sold. You may ask for correction or erasure at [email protected].
Reviewed legal notes
Published only after a separate review. Not a private file, and not advice on facts you have not put in writing. YLA Pro Bono Legal Assistance provides preliminary legal guidance through a supervised process. AI is used as an internal assistance tool. Responses are reviewed before delivery. Submission of a query does not automatically establish an advocate-client relationship or guarantee representation. Urgent court matters and statutory deadlines require immediate attention.
- Reviewed legal notes will be listed here when one has been published. The joining questions above are the ones to read first.
